Today I finally got my Chiller - a Resun CL-85. I didn't know it had to be hooked up to a separate pump or canister filter.
It just so happens that recently bought an Aqua One Aquis 500, which is being cycled with my 60L tank.

There were no installation instructions or accessories with the chiller, just a spare fuse. Information online is lacking too.

I read an old post on here that said:
Connect the input hose to the chiller (has no lable for inny or outy, just two hose things) , then a hose from the chiller to the Input on the filter. Filter outlet hose remains the same. Is this right?

Does the length between the chiller hose and filter matter or can it be as long/short as desired?

Thanks in advance :)

You can connect your chiller inline with your filter if the flow rates are compatible. Preferably you want your chiller's input to be the canister's output as the canister will remove the particulates before it reaches the chiller.

Inlet > canister filter > chiller > outlet

I really don't think you'll have any problems with your setup though, because if I remember correctly, the chiller you have cools the water with a thermoelectric peltier and flow rates are much less of an issue.

Also, I've read it's a good idea to clean your chiller every six months to avoid a calcium buildup on the internal thermometer which can cause the unit to cool improperly and lead to unexpected tank temperatures.

Enjoy your new chiller. You're going to have a very happy axolotl!

Thanks!

I finally found an image online showing the setup, and have it as you suggested above. I have had it running for 2 days now.
I set it to 16 degrees c, and it took a while to cool down. It was 16.6c this morning when I got up. Then slowly today, the temperature has been sneaking back up. It's currently at 18.8c. Something tells me this shouldn't be happening, and can't find a thing online to help.
Might have to call the store (interstate) and ask them about it.

The chiller you have can bring down the temperature at most a few degrees. From what I understand it's about the same as using fans to cool the tank. If your desired temperature is roughly 5 degrees below ambient temperature then what you have should work just fine.

Actual refrigeration chillers that can bring a tank's temperature down 10 degrees minimum and are roughly in the same price range as you paid for your unit. If your current unit is having problems keeping your tank at the desired temperature, then I would look into returning your unit for a 1/13hp to a 1/4hp chiller depending on your tank size.

I know it seems like a hassle but considering this will be your biggest purchase for your axolotl, you really have to get it right. If what you have isn't working, don't be afraid to replace it for something that suits your needs.
