I have 2 firebelly newts and 2 firebelly toads... now the man at the store said they can be mixed because thats how they were in the store... so i did.. in a 20 gallon... which at the time was half water half land... but the newts never went in the water... they actually seemed petrified of it... the only time they went in was when i placed them in there because they were begining to dryout... now... i have changed the tank to an all land... with a 1 gallon tub for swimming... and the newts seem to stay under a log 24/7. Only one newt seems to eat... and i have tried blood worms, pellets, meal worms, and crickets... also... when i frst got the newts one appeared to have a wound spot on his head... it looked as tho skin was missing.. today i noticed my other newt has the same problem except on his leg and foot (this one is the one that wont eat)... also i noticed he is missin a toe... which could have been missin when i got him... i really didnt check for missing toes when i got him... but i dont know whats wrong... im new to both species... but i only seem to be having trouble with my newts... and the only information i can find are the few websites that tell me where they originated from... which doesnt help... i would like to know whats wrong with them... why he wont eat and what these wound spots are... if they are infact wounds... how to prevent them or how to treat them! thank you...

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
