My female firebelly newt (rough skinned), just shed a couple of days ago, one day ago I noticed one of her feet (right front foot) was mutilated, a chunk appeared to be bitten off (but she lives alone), to toes are missing and the foot and leg (from the elbow down) are very red and swollen. She seems lethargic and has not eaten in two days, but she ate a very large cricket two days ago (so she might not be hungry yet). I have heard newts regenerate their limbs is this true (will her toes grow back)? What should I do about her swelling and mutilated foot, I do not care what she looks like but I am very worried about posible gangrene or infection from her injury, is their anything I can get in a petstore (antibiotic?) to help her, the dog resently had to go to the vet and the hamster before that, my parents are not going to want to take one of my newts to the vet (for some reason they consider her significantly less important than the other pets). I am very worried about her she is my favorite newt. Alot of my older pets resently passed away so maybe I am a bit too paranoid or maybe not I don't know and I have had heartburn twice today (I hardly ever get heartburn) from the stress. I have newts for years with only one or two minor problems but this one I got a few months ago has escaped and she had an eye problem and now this, everytime I think everything is okay something else happens too her. Is her situation bad? Is their anyway to help her?
