I've found a smooth newt in a pond now during the mating season. It is quite badly injured so I decided to bring it home and try to help it. I've put him in a sterile plastic box with minimal layer of water, a small sterile land area and gave him some bloodworms. He looks like he's eating them, but he can barely move. He's got some deep cuts in his back and tail and struggles to walk. I've put the box in a cabinet so he isn't stressed. Is there anything else that I can do for him? I think his chances are low, but I want to at least try something

I'd say just keep doing what you're doing, just make sure the water stays clean and as cool as possible and let nature take it's course. As long as his internal organs are ok and he isn't bleeding out I'd say he has a chance at least.
