One of our two fire bellied newts is injured. We believe it was our large apple snail which we now realise was a bad idea to have so he’s been reallocated. Our newt seems bent and crippled with his spine curled and he now has trouble staying on his front and keeps flipping onto his back. He has been like this for 3 weeks and I’ve been trying to find advice but no one seems to know anything in our local stores. He is pretty old, we have had them for around 12 years. Always been well and healthy until now. We have been desperately trying to feed him but he seems unwilling or unable To feed. Seems to be nothing we can do but hate thinking that he’s starving to death. How long can they even go without food?

Thought he snapped at a brine shrimp last night but he often twitches so think it was wishful thinking. Does anyone know if anything we can do for him? Keep thinking each morning he will have died but he still keeps moving and flipping over poor thing. Even shed his skin a few days ago. Any advice greatly appreciated

Hi! my one and half year old newt is doing the same thing, I took to vet yesterday and have been given butorphanol and Hartmann solution to soak in, they think it has ingested something that’s possibly pierced through, and the flipping on back is a pain response, did yours survive? Mines not eating and I’ll potentially have to get it euthanised on Monday
