Hi everyone, I'm moving back to the US from Germany in about a month and have 5 marbled newts. I was wondering if I can bring these into the US, with me and what I need to do in order to do so. First, what paperwork or documents would I need? Second, are there any tips as how to best transport them? Thanks in advance for all your advice!

Bump: No one has info on this?

Back in the old days I think USFW would issue an exemption from import fees for personal pets. I doubt that this is in affect any more. When I imported animals it cost me 100.00 for an import/export permit and about 100.00 for inspection fees on the U.S. end. When I used a broker it cost about 400.00 for broker fees. Their might be exit inspections on your end. You could check with German authorities and USFW for the technicalities. My recommendation would be to sell the animals and buy new when you are in the U.S.

Their are other ways to import salamanders to the U.S. I don't recommend using them. Some people have become experts on importing and exporting salamanders and avoiding all of the paperwork and fees. Of course their will be extra paperwork and fees if they get caught.
