The photos are great:happy: How old is he? He looks very cute

Cute! I have a wild type too. What is the little one's name?

The fan is working well enough for now. The tank has sat at 16c all day.

It was delivered via TNT in a properly labelled box at 7:20am. Inside the box was a poly box packed in shredded paper. Inside the poly box was the axolotl, double bagged and wrapped in more newspaper.

Wow 16, I remember you said your room temp was over 20 I did not think the fans would be so good, I bet he is nice and chilled out! I have just bought a chiller for 200 on ebay, wont be using it on my new tank for a few weeks so ill let you know how it goes.

I recommend you buy some axolotl pellets form the same website very good value, my albino loves them and the are apparently very fattening...good for axolotl or our size and I would imagine your guy is already trained on them

Edit... I love the colour of his gill 'stems' bright yellow is this pigment reflective? if it is I bet it look's beautiful!

I love your wild type's color! There are so many different shades of wild types.

What type of cooling fans do you use then?

Room temp was 19C yesterday so 16C can't be bad with just a fan and no hood on :) I've seen a lot of 2nd hand chillers being sold under £100 whilst looking around so I'm hoping to pick up a bargain before the summer. Trying to sell my RO/DI unit to fund it as I don't need it any more.

I'll be getting some of those pellets, I tried him on some hard hikari carnivore sinking tablets that I already had and he ate those no problem.

I hadn't noticed the yellow in the stems until your comment! I'll have to have a closer look today and see. Could just be the camera flash bringing it out as I honestly haven't noticed it before.

It's a 250mm Antec pc case fan. I actually got it direct from Antec as a free replacement for one in a pc case that failed. I can't see anything this size for sale on the net but have seen some 200mm (20cm) ones.

ANTEC 200MM BIG BOY 200 TRICOOL PC COMPUTER CASE FAN on eBay (end time 13-Apr-10 18:26:37 BST)

I cut the wires to the LEDs on my 250 and cut the LED controller off. Mounted the speed controller on one of the wood supports that I used, chopped the 4pin pc connector off and attached a 12v adapter that I already had. It's been running 24 hours a day on full speed since and has cost me nothing as I already had everything to hand.

You could use a household fan, that way you'd get a bigger bladed fan and it would already have a UK plug on. I have a massive industrial sized one I could use in an emergency but it might blow the water out of the tank lol Depends what your requirements are really. Well worth considering if you can't afford a chiller or want something until you do get one.

I am getting a 250 litre tank think I need a larger chiller!, Still, I can not complain about cost it is our responsibility to care for our new family members how they need to be. I am surprised about the lack of chillers on the market I assumed it would be a necessary piece of equipment for most cold water tanks especially in places like Australia and Calli etc.

Can we have some more pictures please he is beautiful!

Poser! You should get him some mirrors LOL

Did you look at the gills? are they yellow pigment or the camera flash?

It is yellow pigment. The tank isn't lit very bright so it's hard to see which is why I didn't notice.

Really nice I have read on this forum a lot of coloured spots etc disappear with age, I hope this is not the case. I was debating Getting a wild type for the 60litre tank I have now. I think I will in a few months Seeing him has made up my mind

I was going to get a Leucistic, those and albinos are all over the place now but really glad I went with a wild.

He's really active as well. I wasn't expecting that, he's always on the move. Great to watch, little foot prints all over the sand.
