Yay, finally a heavy storm!! I hope this will lure the salamanders out. There is a lot of thunder and lightning so I don't wan't to go out now. I'll check tomorrow morning maybe I'll get lucky.

Hopefully I don't loose power though, my filter will shut off and I won't be able to watch my favorite show tonight.

Lucky you. We need rain down here. All the vernal pools dried up and all the frog and toad eggs died except for the ones I collected. Now I have tons of tadpoles at home but if the rain doesn't keep up all of the algea in the ditch will dry up and I won't be able to provide the tadpoles with food. I want to release these guys once they've morphed into frogs and toads. Good Luck Ryan!

Huhuhu, false alarm, just one of those things tjat passes through. It might have "wetted" up the woods though.

It still maybe enough to bring out the redbacks. I have found them on the driest of days.

I got the rain...lots of it for me but none of the marbled newts came out. I've been walking in my woods after the rain looking for signs of them but nothing yet.

Me neither. I found one red-back in my yard this year but I lost it!!

There are more fish (or should I say salamanders) in the sea (or should I say woods).

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
