Not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes. While camping in the Olympic Peninsula, I ran across a very small salamander. It was black (like a true black, not dark brown, etc...) with white spots on the dorsal side. The venter was a cream or white color. Unfortunately, I did not have my camera with me and since I have no macro lens, it would not have been very helpful anyway. I just assumed that it was a juvenile Olympic Torrent salamander, Rhyacotriton olympicus, but according to Peterson's, they are a plain brown above. To be honest, it looked quite a bit like a Siskiyou Mt Del Norte salamander, Plethodon elongatus stormi. Its habits were exactly the same as a torrent salamander in that I found it under a small stone in the splash zone and the salamander went into the water for safety. There were also several western red-backed juvenile salamanders, Plethodon vehiculum, within a ten foot stretch of the stream bank. Strange...

I've seen a couple on the west side of the peninsula that were such a dark chocolate that they looked black, so your ID is probably correct.

Okay, thanks, Russ. That is the area where I was looking.

russ, what kind of sally is that in your display picture??
it looks like the morphed axie pics ive seen

That's an Albino Arboreal salamander, right Russ?
