I think I need more cave type items in my aquarium. Would love to hear of any ideas. I did order the coconut shell when I ordered the almond leaves however now that I think about it that may not be a good idea because of the rough areas. So I don't think I thought that ideas out properly.

Would love to hear from others what they use for caves for their axies. Right now all I am using is pvc pipes which looks pretty tacky. But it is what Alana was using and works well but is definitely an eye sore.... :)

I greatly appreciate your suggestions as I am not the least bit creative.

If you go to Home depot or any hardware store you can buy the large PVC piping for relatively cheap. I bought an elbow joint that mine love to hide in. You can literally create long caves for them to explore and hide in. If you drill small holes into the top part you can weave in plants that will spread over top. I'm thinking things like java moss.

Oh! just did a quick search and it looks like you can decorate the pvc using silicone and attaching rocks and sand to make it more natural looking.

My baby tanks have terraotta pots cut in half, various aquarium tunnels and arches, and low plants for them to hide under. Most of them don't hide though, they sit on top of the hides!

i would recommend the Exo-terra rockcave! it is made for reptiles and frogs so it has no nasty chemicals, they safe for both freshwater and saltwater. I have one in my axie tank and she loves it!

you can get them online or at a good pet store

I took plastic drinking straws and attached them to each other using thick needles and thread in the shape of a triangular prism, and then covered 2 of the 3 rectangular sides in several layers of brown nylon, like a tent. I put rocks in between the layers to weigh the thing down. They love it.

I've got a small terracotta pot, a fake rock cave, a 3 tier pipe, a nice piece of driftwood he can hide under, a hollow rock and my favorite one - 3 perfect rocks I found at the beach (quarantined and suitable for fish tanks) which I assembled into a very low cave he loves to snuggle under.

You can you pretty much anything that sinks, is not sharp, and aquarium safe!

ive got pieces of drift wood stacked kinda together to make one huge cave, and a few pieces of slate on the other side of my tank put together to make a cave as well. Mostly my 2 little guys like the driftwood. Although sometimes i'll see one of the tails sticking out of the slate cave :p
