So, i have newt pellets and frozen blood worms for my newt, but he will only eat the bloodworms (he's super spoiled). what else should i try? would frozen beef heart help supplement his diet? i want to know what the most balanced diet would be for him.

thank you!

Earth worms are the way to go. I buy tubs of Canadian night crawlers at Walmart and Petsmart. The paddletails I have owned have all done well with worms as a staple (as would most if not all caudates).

Earthworms as a staple, no doubt about it. Bloodworms are fine as an occasional part of the diet, but don´t abuse them since they´ll eventually cause severe dietary deficiencies.
Other than earthworms, crustaceans like gammarids, anostraceans, fresh-water shrimp, isopods, etc, are ideal supplements and very natural for a torrent species. You can also offer the occasional small, fresh.water fish as Pachytriton are partially specialized for eating them. Make sure they are bred by yourself or adequately quarantined before use.

thank you so much! just called and the petsmart by my house has night crawlers! going today to get some.
