I want to get the kit(even though they have been cancelled) but is there a way to make one with similar attractiveness? If so what materials would I use?

I want the stream to be able circulate(flow) and basically be its own mini enviroment.

Thanks for your help!

The first thing you need to do is to partition your tank in a land area and a water area. You can do this easily by buying a piece of glass proportionate to the width of your tank and as high as you want your land area to be. You can fix it in your tank using aquarium sealant or clear window sealant. You can then fill your land area with gravel like in the kit or with with witch you could plant . If you put soil, add some gravel at the bottom first to help drain excess water.
For the river bed, you can use pieces of plastic tubing cut in half that you can glue together to create the river shape that you want and glue rocks to it to create a more natural look. Plastic never looks natural so you can cover it by gluing sand to it. Someone suggested to me using aquarium sealant mixed with sand as a good material, it is both water resistant and transparent so you will see the sand through it. If you wanted to get more experimental, you could cast a piece in the shape of river that you want and then fill that with the sand/sealant mix. Or you can get big rocks and hotglue them together to create you river/waterfall shape. When that’s done, just put the outflow of your filter to the river start point and you’re set.
You can email me if you want, I’m in the process of building something too.

Slightly OT: }
Is it true that aquarium silicone sealant and clear silicone bathtub caulk are the same thing? I heard that, and from what I can find out, the ingredients seem to be the same (and they smell the same, though I'm sure that means nothing).

Only reason I ask, is that clear silicone tub caulk is cheaper. :/

It says on the bathtub sealent 'do not use in aquariums' or something along those lines.

Yes, the silicon for bathrooms has a fungicide or something like that added and should therefore not be used. The silicone for kitchens that says it is food safe is ok to use, though.

It has to be the kind that is not mildew or mold resistant...these are the words to look out for when buying your sealant.

What kit are you trying to imitate? Does someone have a picture?
Also, is it ok to keep terrarium moss (store packaged kind) half submerged in water? I want to make sure it is always moist, and I don't mind replacing it when necessary. I just don't want my newts to dry out. I swear, the female is trying to commit suicide or something!

The new Tetra viquarium should be on the market by Christmas 2010. I have mine sitting in a box ready to set up.

cool. The new one is similar but it looks like the filter and divider are a little larger. I think they are on the market now.

    Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
