I took my kids out to a place we used to look for tadpoles and waterdogs today only to find the farmer had drained the pond. I found these eggs in a spot of water about the size of my foot and knew it would be dry by tomorrow so I brought them home. I've never raised eggs before and i don't know if the ones that look kinda cloudy are already toast or if that's normal. Any thoughts? *thought i had attached pics but i guess it didn't work so i'm trying again*

A picture would be really helpful? do they look like they are or have started developing?

I added some pics, and that is the water I found them in, there wasn't much of it though.

The ones that are kinda half moon shaped look as though they are doing fine not sure if the curcle ones are though. only because some look like their forming and useually if the eggs are good they'll all form roughly at the same time.

You just need to keep them in clean critter cage until they hatch. Once they hatch(assuming that they do hatch) just feed them crushed fish flakes. If you want to be extra safe you can feed them the advanced way... Take lettuce and boil it for 10 to 15 min. Then take it, mince it and freeze it in little cubes about 1 inch X 1 inch. When you are ready to feed just take a cube and drop it into the tank.

Good luck

Evan

I have an extra tupperwear tub i can put them in can i just add water from m y turtles tank? I don't want to add tap water. The kinda cloudy ones were almost out pf the water and the other 2 clumps may not show in the pic but one set is nearly twice the size of the other so I figured they were a day apart. I hope they make it but then i have to find a new place to release them. Ill have to see if there is any water close to where i got them.

Add fresh water (tap water) but make sure it is treated with tap water conditioner. The water from your turtle's tank, even if just cleaned, will be exceptionally dirty as turtles have a high waste output.

Yeah turtles! Are messy so I keep them in a 55 gal with 2 einheim canister filters running. I just figured it was as close to pond water as i have. I got up this morning and the eggs are now full of wiggly little guys! Man they develop fast! If i could figure out how to post pics with my phone I'd do it but i'll post some from my pc tonight.

That was supposed to say "Yeah turtles are messy..." but i was using my phone and it got excited I guess lol! Here are some pics from this morning.

I just realized i posted this in the Axolotl thread! I have axies and that's why I joined Caudata. Sorry guys! I'll have to remember to use my computer to post if I want to start threads so I don't post in the wrong place again (I have a heck of a time navigating this site on my droid)

Also.... The eggs hatched on day 3 and they are happy fat little tadpoles! Still not sure what kind they are, but I'll know in a week or so. I'm going to wait until they are hoppers before I release them, they have a better chance at not getting eaten that way :)

Good luck :)
I raised frog Tadpoles a few weeks back, they hatched on day 10 but they all died on day 12. I have no idea what happened. I was feeding them goldfish flakes, in a 60x60cm tub with still, dechlorinated water, with plenty of large gravel and large pebbles. Even a few flies had drowned in there.

I guess mine was a one off, but i'm trying again next year :p

I've raised lots of tadpoles, this was my first time with eggs though. I've been feeding them boiled lettuce and they have already sprouted back legs and seem to be doing well. They are fun for the kids to watch. We will turn them loose as soon as they are big enough.

awww congrats!! you totally did save them!! How cute!! How many lil tadpoles do u have now? Do you know what they are frogs or water dogs ?? How neat!! Thanks for sharing with us!!

Well I now have about 30 tadpoles, they still just have back leg buds and seem to be 2 different types as half of them are nearly double the size of the other half. I don't know what they are yet, my guess is toads of frogs of some sort lol! I had about twice that many but someone thought they might like it better in my axolotl tank and by the time I caught her my little one had put half of them in there and they got eaten.
