I have 2 axolotls both about 1 yr old. The past couple of days 1 has been behaving oddly so I took him to the pet shop to check him out, I got told that HE was actually a SHE and looked really healthy and that they seem to think that she has a belly full of eggs.

This is where I get confused.

I think my other axie is also female (I have taken photos and a video clip and I'm gunna check this with the pet shop).

So what happens now? I don't understand. :confused:Sorry if I sound stupid!

Will she lay the eggs?
I take it this will this happen again with her?
If so how often?

The past couple of days she has just laid at the bottom of the tank and doesn't always eat - which they said is normal when she's carrying eggs, and said this behaviour might go on for a few week. If anyone can help that will be great.

All mature females produce eggs, and it is quite possible yours is gravid (holding a lot of eggs). She won't lay them unless she is fertilised by a male, so if you're sure you have 2 females don't worry.
If you can post some pictures of her from the side and top I can confirm for you.

She may be a bit listless for a while - if not fertilised she will reabsorb the eggs and may lose her appetite.

Thank you for your reply. I don't know how to post photos.

Thanks Chris. It's not letting me do it though. I'm trying it on my phone cos I've no computer....don't know if it makes a difference?
