Compared with some other hynobiid species, they're shy and skittish, at least in my experience. So don't expect it to readily accept hand-fed food. They do eat well in captivity, but seem to prefer to do it privately.

My dunni larvae aren't far behind, but I am losing large numbers of them to a fungal infection. I think it may be connected to the recent hot weather.
The infection begins with erosion of the tail 'fin', and then a carpet f fungus quickly spreads up the tail causing necrosis as it goes. Animals die in about 2 days. I'm treating with some antifungal fish medicine, which seems to have slowed the progress of infection. Only one animal has symptms at the mment.
ANy more ideas?
Nice animal, by the way, Paris.
