<i>Hynobius nebulosus</i>

Now that I get the hang on it here's a shot on young juvenile H. nebulosus. Hope I haven't posted it before

I suppose that juvie is CB but do you know where the adults are originally from? From what I'm told and from my own experience, the ones in the far west and south of Japan tend to have the yellow-tipped tails. Over the weekend, I saw some from central-western Japan (Hyogo Pref. I think) and they had no yellow whatsoever.

I'm raising two groups of juveniles -- both of them from western Japan (Fukuoka and Nagasaki prefectures) -- and they both have the yellow-tipped tails (the yellow with the latter being brighter than that with the former).

When it comes to eating, they can be real pigs

Unfortunatelly of this group I have no locality data. They came in as juveniles and I took some shots. Currently they are adult and have been breeding for the 2nd year. I intend to keep the offspring and elnarge the group.

Indeed the nebulosus is a strange and quite variable group...
