<i>Hynobius nebulosus</i> (Nagoya type)

These egg sacs are from a far eastern form of H. nebulosus found in the area around Nagoya. They were once thought to be a a far western form of H. tokyoensis, and known as the "Owari Salamander."

there is always something about those egg sacs which make me pause and stare. Lovely pics Tim!
 
Somehow I missed this when it was posted Tuesday. Beautiful! Are all the egg sacs the same size as the hand-held one? The ones in the water look larger, but it's hard to judge size there.
 
Thanks. That one in the hand is about 6 cm in diameter, probably smaller than the ones in the water there. Notice that it's curled tighter, which makes it look even smaller.

The tail in that first picture seems very short, is that normal for this species?
