Today, i was cleaning the newt tank at work, and i came across this big, fat, firebelly newt. I'm into axolotls, so i was surprised i liked this little guy so much. For less than $7, i might just have to take him since i have an extra 10gal laying in my basement :)

I can certainly understand that. What a cute, fat little guy! I have had a pair (I think two females) for about 2 years now. I enjoy them very much.

Just today I came home from the pet store with a new aquarium plant (the kind with a plastic mesh pot) and, guess what? When I took the plant out of the plastic bag, there was one of these guys in the pot!

So now I have a trio! Not sure if the new one is male or female. I doubt the pet store had a clue he was in the tank since it seemed to be completely empty except for the potted plants. I got the plant for my fire bellied toad tank and am glad I knew better than to put this guy in there!

@Hannahll: It happens :) I fell in love with my axolotl the moment I saw her, and I was never really into fish, amphibians or reptiles before. Now I know better XD

@Devalight: And how lucky was it that you found that firebelly newt in that plant? It's amazing that you know so much about them too. A few weeks ago I wouldn't have even known what they looked like

I had a similar experience. I was just looking around at the pet store and came across their fire bellies that were in a completely wrong set up with fire bellied toads! My husband and I bought two that night and within two days we went back for the other two. They are now living in happily in a 20 gal long planted tank. They are so happy in fact there are now 3 babies :D! I never saw the eggs, just one day noticed the little guys swimming around. Two have now morphed so it looks like I will have to clean out my 10 gal and get to cycling!
