 Well I am ready to try my hand at being parent to a couple of these beautiful lil guys,
I am just worried about one thing, well maybe 2 things but both on the same line,
I am so worried about keeping them cool enough, I know it is way too hot here right now to have them shipped, it has been in the 100s and above here the last week and half.
The room that they will be in could get real warm at times, and before I get any I want to make very sure I have the means of regulating their water temp.
I have been looking on line for different chillers, fans etc.. I can in no way afford the chillers I have seen, the cheapest I have seen is like $300.00, and I don't know if the clip on fans would do the trick. so I really need some help on this matter, I in no way want to get a couple and then have something I did hurt them.
Any help or advice on this will be greatly appreciated.

Well you will need to cycle a tank anyway. In the 4 weeks while it's cycling keep an eye on the temp, see if you can get it stable and low. If you can't then you may have to get a slightly more tropical fish in the meantime lol.

Fans, filters and bottles of frozen water all help keep the temps down

The clip-on fans supposedly work really well if you don't have high humidity in your area. I find a combination of AC, fans, and frozen things can keep my tank around 70 (not ideal, but better than 75+). It makes me really wish I'd tracked the temp better before I got my axolotl, though :/

Hello and welcome! :D

Yes, the heat is an issue. Mine are currently in the fridge so they don't overheat.

I have the clip on fan, 2 fans in the bedroom where they are kept, tried the frozen water bottles, etc. and it still didn't keep the temp in the tank low enough, so into the fridge they went, where they are much happier than I am! :p

I will be purchasing a small portable AC unit for my bedroom shortly. That will keep my axies, and ME, cool enough to make it through this heat wave. ;)

Your tank will cycle quicker if at higher temperatures :) The water change before you put them in will bring the tank back down to a lower temperature.
Can you put your tank lower down? On the floor is best for cooler water. But as others have said, ice bottles, a fan and an open top tank works well at cooling it. A bigger tank helps too ;)

My suggestion would be set up your tank, start cycling, either fishless or with fish in it. Dont do anything to keep it cool. Check the temp on a hotter day. Take that temperature and write it down.
Then start doing some cooling methods. Take the lid off, keep the room dark and as cool as possible, add some fans to the water, add a airstone to add bubbles(helps evaporation) and then check the temp then.

I did that and ive been able to keep my tank 72-74 on the hottest days. Not ideal but they dont seem stressed. When it gets to 74 thats when i ise ice bottled, they dont help much it just makes sure that the tank doesnt get any hotter then 74

Doing all of the above can drop the temp down by 3-5C which is huge!

Location is also key. I have a guppy tank in the living room sitting at 78-80 with no heater and my lotl tank in the bedroom about 10F cooler

Keeping their tank low down helps too. I found tanks near the floor to be around 2 degrees C cooler than those at waist height.

:frog: Thanks to all of you. I have the temp under control I think. I took all of the advice and put it all together.
My future Axie tank is setting on a table under my AC:smile: in my bedroom and I have got the water temp to stay between 72 and 68 degrees for 4 days now,
Thank all of you guys so much, everyone has been so helpful.
My Axie is supposed to be shipped to me next week, I can hardly wait.
