So I've finished setting up my terrarium for the awaited arrival of a Fire Salamander. I have one half moist to the touch, the other half slightly drier with a water dish. I have two hides, a log and a cave like thing. The substrate is 2 1/2 inches thick with some gravel for drainage. The tempature is about 19 or so degrees. I think it is fine from what I've read about their requirments, but does anyone see anything wrong with it, bearing in mind it's the basics as I'll be putting in plants and a layer of moss on one side. Here are some pictures(if they show up)-

So there it is, any suggestions?

Hmm sorry they didn't show up, sorry about that, still any suggestions from just reading?

Are you going to feed him crickets? I had a fire sal once and crickets killed it. I didn't know that if there were extras in there, the crickets would bite the sal. Hard lesson learned.

Not now I'm not! No anyway I was planning on worms and mabey whatever else I can find, I'll take a look later on. Thanks for the warning.

Worms are great. One of my favorite foods is waxworms. They're great in moderation. Crickets can, and will, kill your pets if they are in excess. Try feeding only a few at a time. Its easier to feed multiple times in meals that will be completely consumed than try feeding only once in large amounts.
