How to treat?

My CFB newt has been a little under the weather recently, but recently i discovered what seems to be a small white sore/ulcer developing right above its back left leg. I have heard that salt baths are a good way to treat this, but I was also wondering if melafix would work as well. The aquarium center told me it works for both fish and amphibians. Would this treatment be safe/effective?
