Hi my female is full of eggs and been acting strange today as if shes looking for a spot to lay her eggs. How do I tell when shes about to lay to keep an eye on her as this is both our first lot of eggs. And is it ok for mum and eggs if the tank sits at 16 degrees celcius as its winter here so its been cold.

Well, if she hasn't laid them since you posted then she wasn't looking for places to lay. When axolotls are about to lay eggs they usually get restless, their gills (if they are a light color morph) turn bright red, and their cloaca swells quite a bit.

Thanks she still hasn't laid any so I don't think she took the sperm the male put in the tank. Shes a golden ax and her gills are pinky/red. But I'll keep an eye out for the other signs you mentioned. Thank you for your help. Atleast I know what to look for now. Shes still fat hopefully they'll be successful this winter before summer comes.:D
