I have got 5 Cynops orientalis in one tank. From the info on this site, and caudata culture, I am pretty sure that I have 4 males and 1 Female. My partner is a school teacher and was going to take 2 of them into school ( bring home for summer).

My question is, what would be the best way to split the group? Will 3 males be better in one tank rather than 2? Or do we need another female? Or should she take a single male or female?

Any help would be greatly received!

Well, it doesn´t really matter unless you intend to breed them, in which case, they have a better chance of doing so at home rather than at the school. If that´s not an issue, then any combination will work. You don´t need to keep them in mixed groups, they don´t care.

That's great, thanks Azhael!

I was worried that a male might get aggressive toward another male unless there was a lady around. My girlfriend will be a lot happier now with her mind at rest.

Nah, don´t worry. This species isn´t aggresive at all and there´s no aggression between males. At most, the occasional body part, mistakenly bit without consequences or damage, and that usually only happens during feeding frenzies.
