How can I lessen the flow of this filter? It's an aqueon.. it has pretty significant flow and I think it's stressing out my new baby axolotls. I have it off for now until I can figure out how to lessen the flow.

There are a number of options, but essentially you have to put something under the outflow so that the water diffuses over/around/through. If it were me, I'd build a stable structure using orange bricks or flower pots, and place a flat rock on top. The water would spill onto the rock and fall into the tank in several different directions.

Also, check the instructions for the filter and see if it has any adjustment for flow rate.

I tried many things rocks, plants, and other things. The thing that has worked for me is the floting island petstores sell. It has suctions cups which keeps it in place while the water gets dispersed.

An excellent suggestion was made in another thread a few weeks back (which my ADHA mind has misplaced:rolleyes:) about using a floating turtle island. Like Jen says, any sort of interesting arrangement of pots, rocks and plants can be utilized to slow that flow down.

Can I suggest using a floating turtle dock too? All three above have mentioned the same, I didn't want to be left out! Have you got shares in turtle docks here? Any one else going to chime in?

Sorry couldn't resist!
