this species is not protected as long as you don't sell it, and it is a lovely specimen, good luck with it

Thanks William Do you know the setup of a tank for a Smooth Newt?

that semi aquatic set up seems fine to me, but i'd put in plenty of plants since it is a wild animal and it will need some quite hiding places for it to get used to being in captivity. make sure the water is clean, but not tap water since that has chlorine in it.

hmm should i collect rain water? but that will take days to fill my tank up, how do i de-chroline my water? i cant buy no tests until i get paid on friday

do you have a water butt or something similar, the water in there would be good, rainwater would be good too, or water from where you got the newt from in the first place

i got it given from a building site, so there wasnt much water only muddy puddles, we used to have a rain but, we have a pond? its algae green :p it has like 6 fish in it n some pond vegi, will that do?

as i said in the chat, the water would be fine, i'd boil it though just to get rid of unwanted algae and micro organisms

ok thanks will

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
