Hello, I was wondering how I could create land. By that I mean I want to make it, not buy a cave or things of that nature. A person said styrofoam, but I would like something that looks better. Thanks!

How to create land for a fire belly newt tank?

Thank you for your response! I looked up cork bark. From what I saw it looked rough. I have read numerous times that you should not have rough things in with fire belly newts. Have you had this with other fire bellies? Thanks again for responding!

It only look rough, but it's cork... 
A piece of driftwood or stones sticking out of the water will do fine also. And you're creating some hiding places as well

No danger in using cork bark. It may look rough, but it´s actually rather soft. I´ve used it for years, and lots of other people have used for much longer with excelent results. You can cover it with java moss and the effect is quite nice.
I prefer it to stones breaking the surface cause the stone take a lot of water volume. Another very good option are bricks. They provide suffficient land area for an emergency, and holes for the newts to rest in.

I now have a platform for turtles that I bought in a pet store, is acrylic resin and covered with moss java, is practical and takes up very little space! Previously I had a large rock that tore the surface of the water, but as has been said took up so much volume, so I took it away. But any day I remove the platform, because these newts as adults if the water quality is good can spend a lifetime without leaving it!
