It is day 4 post eggs being hatched by the teenage axie mother.... they seem to be changing shape but i just wondered what colour they should be looking- they don't seem to be as jet black as before?
how will we know if they are ok or not? ( mummy is black/grey and daddy who we thought was mummy is pink!)

Our eggs were from white mum and wild type dad and they began half black and half white. Gradually the dark overtook the white and it probably did lighten from jet black. It will be very obvious which eggs are not going to live - they flatten and go opaque-ish grey. I didn't remove all of the dodgy ones because it was too much trouble and it all seemed to turn out ok. Water in the tank with the eggs was around 18 degrees C and it took around 17 days for all to hatch. Isn't it exciting? Our new little larvae are about 8 days old and I spend hours just staring at them. Keep us posted about your progress!

these eggs are starting to take on shapes like beans!! i have no idea yet what they are doing- i personally didn't want to keep any but the hubbie and daughter couldn't bear any more to go- who will end up doing all the work tho??

great photos! thanks Jennifer- you're always so helpful
