I've had 4 C. pyrrhogaster for 12 years now. They were already adult when I got them, so I guess they're at least 15 years old. How old can these guys get? Mine are going strong; and I'll try to breed them again next spring. Hope they're not too old to do, ya, know, the whoopie...

I'm aware of one Cynops ensicauda which, although looking geriatric 15 years ago, is still around at an age well over 30 and possibly approaching 40. I suspect that many salamanders can easily reach 20 or more years in captivity, as can a great many "short-lived" herps.

I have a group of wc C. e. ensicauda from 1993 which wre also adults when captured from the wild. So there are at least 20 to 21 years old, and still breeding.

that's cool. My goodness, these guys might even outlive me!

Hi,
I got my oldest female in 1985, she was adult then. And I have two females raised in 1992 by myself. All are laying eggs almost every year.
