My lovely rescue axotl came to me 10 days ago without prior historical knowledge of habit or instruction, in desperate need of a new home.. I have tried the food supplied (frozen n freeze dried blood worms, frozen shrimp and whitetail??) but no interest and I was starting to worry. Today I tried a freshly dug earthworm and it was gone in seconds. It was amazing to see it eat. I was mesmerized by the speed of the pounce and disappearance of quite a big worm! Is this then the preferred food do you all think? I tried a second one but it was ignored. How often should I be looking to offer a worm please?? The axotl is approximately 6" long. Thank you.

I feed my axolotl earth worms all the time for years , for the babies I feed them live black worms. Those two type of worms are their best food for any axolotl , known for their high nutrient, less fatty acid, and most recommended. One axolotl consumed more than a few worms per day, my axie eat like a pig so I get the European Nightcrawler cause they are bigger and can stay longer underwater. You should buy weekly supplies of worms possibly 100 worms per week? ( I always goes for quantity) or you can raise the worms your self.

How old is your Axie? Juvies need to eat every day and adults can eat every other day.

I give my axie a few chopped up pieces of frozen krill (rinsed) each day with tongs, then I put pellets and either frozen blood worms or frozen mysis shrimp in his bowl to munch on during the day. In the evening I give him a few black soldier fly larva with tongs. (He's approximately 4 or 5 months old.)

I've started a red wiggler colony so he can have earthworms when he's older, but they haven't multiplied enough to use them yet.

Adults need feeding every 2 or 3 days, my adults will take 1-6 worms each depending on temp, size, age etc. So you need to get to know your axie and what it wants to eat, there are guidelines but no set rules.
In the UK you can get worms online - I use Yorkshire Worms - if you order 100g and set up a little worm bucket you can figure out how much you need a month and order when you need them. I have 30+ axies, I get through about 1kg a month plus live/frozen food for babies.

Hey.. I feed my adult axolotls between 1-6 earthworms every other day.. as much as I feel they should have really.
My skinny axolotl (rescue) gets that daily.

I'm really confused as to how much to feed a juvenile? She will accept earthworms and bloodworms.. I tend to feed her 3/5 earthworms a day and sometimes a cube of bloodworms too? Is that too little or too much? She's about 8/9 months old..

Up to a year they should eat daily yes? Then go to every other day and slowly scale it to every 3 days right? And at every 2 or every 3 days, do you feed until they refuse? Is it ok to also put pellets and other things in their bowl on those feeding days after they have been fed, to munch during the day on feed day? Sorry for all the questions.

I have a 4/5 month old and I do 1 night crawler plus pellets and frozen. On krill day I do 2 krill plus pellets and frozen. I figure if he's hungry, he will eat the pellets and frozen stuff. I feel like, more than 1 night crawler or 2 krill is way too much, but that's just me.
