Hey guys,

So I just want to know from the general community as to how much and how many times a day you feed your axolotl? I know a lot of people here who feed them a portion of bloodworm 3 times a day, but should they be fed more like fish an only once per day?

Thanks :)

It depends how big your axies are. Fully grown they can be fed as little as once a week, larvae need to be fed every day if not twice a day. Temperature is also a factor, low temps means they need less food. Some people like the interaction of little and often, some like to stuff their axies and leave them to it.

So there is no correct answer. You feed your axies so that their bellies are as wide as their heads. If they are too plump, cut back, if they are skinny feed them more.

For the record my little 2-3" juvies get 2 cubes of bloodworm twice a day (16 of them) and my adults get one medium worm 6 days a week (Mixed up with occasional rivershrimp and guppies).

OK thanks a lot for the info - so at the moment my sister has four 6 month old ones and gives them a cube, or two of bloodworm a day (spread out between morning and evening) - so maybe I should tell her to cut down on that? They just seem to look for their food in the tank constantly.

Sometimes it also depends your personal axie.
In my case, Saturn (F 24cm) - 3 medium worms every 2-4 days (depends if it's summer or winter). She has a nice plump belly the same width as her head.
Aries (M 26cm) - 2 medium worms every 2-4 days (depends if it's summer or winter). He wont eat a third like Saturn. He's thinner than Saturn, but in no way skinny or emaciated.

Plus they get treats cause I cave into them when they lie their head against their food bowl and beg!
