How much 02?

How much oxygen does a young axie require? I am thinking of rearing mine individually in small containers then graduate them to a goldfish bowl each. Would I need to run an air pump through each small tank or would they be ok? the small tanks I have are extra large jam jars and would house 1 each

I would not add air stones to that size of container.

Just keep up on water changes, and they should be ok.

i have been keeping mine in small tubs.around 3 in each and i just suck up the poop and replace the water ive took out with clean and mine are fine.

in light of your question:

1) direct answer- if you have only a few eggs/larvae your method may work fine. if you have many (more than say 15) i would find the work exhausting.

2) you might check the link

I've been using this setup for about 3 months now and i'm quite pleased with it. it was a bit of work to set up, and not sure how worthwhile it is for someone not constantly (or recurringly) raising larvae, but you can decide for yourself.

Thank you for those useful pics, do you think it would be possible to raise young alpine newts in individual containers within a large one like your pic with the axolotl tadpoles?

I will certinaly build one of those as I would like to try and rear all the young I currently have.

I'm currently raising a few Crested Newts (T. karelinii) this way and it's working fine for them. Don't know the specific needs of alpine newts, but i imagine that it could work well.
