My axolotl spawned for me for the first time in mid March this year. I was surprised to see another spawn (although smaller) in the tank again the other day, only 3 weeks later. I assumed that females laid eggs maybe two or three times a year, but at this rate I am now uncertain. How many spawns do most breeders see from one female in a year?

If she has a male in with her she will lay eggs as often as she can, only way to stop that is to remove the male.
I would only let her mate twice a year at most as its bad for them to do it often

Every 3-4 weeks. But you should only let them breed once or twice a year - you need to separate the male and female or the female will quickly become exhausted. I lost a female last year after 3 clutches in 5 months.

Thank you for pointing out that it is stressful on the females to breed continuously. I realized that soon after I posted. Does anybody know how often they annually breed in the wild?
