also what can i use to purify clorine water? (i mix it with distilled) and is distilled good enough? also is a filter good enough or do i need other cleaners?

Tiffany, it sounds like you're looking into buying some newts. I would recommend reading any articles that interest you on this website. You can find a list of links here http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/articles.shtml

Be sure you don't have any more questions before you bring your new friends home. I would recommend having everything all planned out. Do you know what you're going to be feeding them?

Distilled water is not good to use because all the minerals have been removed. This will cause the cells in your newts body to release minerals in order to bring the water to equilibrium. Dechlorinated tap water is fine.

Wow, I have never heard of that Joan, but newts are so old, what, like hundreds of million years or so, that anything is possible.

i ahve already had a newt in my 10 gallon tank.it was an oregon newt. i fed him bloodworms. i was just wondering how many more i can put in. i was also using distilled water because thats what the pet store said to use. now i know that they don't know much. i have had Dino for 4 months. he died 2 days ago. and during and before that time i researched alot on him and always tried to make him more comfy. i also want to know if a dechlorinating and dechloramining solution thats about 5 years old will still be good to use.and what should i use to clean my tank? my mom used javax on my net, so i havn't used it for anything because im sure that it is not good. sorry for all the broken up questions. and thanks for all your help.

2 T. granulosa in one 10 gallon is fine, unless they're aggressive.

Dechlor drops should be fresh. I'm betting after 5 years, they lose some of their potency.

To clean your tank, you should suck out poo and cycle the tank. Unless you have a disease outbreak or major problems, there's no need to use chemicals or 100% water changes to clean the tank.

Tiffany, I keep two t. grans in a ten gallon tank, but plan to upgrade as soon as I move out of my mothers house (hopefully this year, hehe). Other people report that their tarichas just walk around on the bottom, but mine are QUITE active as swim nearly as much as fish! That's why I love them so much, because they're so cute and active. Anyway, bigger is always better, two are fine, but no more.

No more cleaning chemicals on the net (or in the tank!)
