Okay, so I've seen the kinds of food that newts like..I went to the petstore and picked up live crickets that are about a centimeter long each. My newt LOVED his little cricket, and he swallowed it immediately.

How many crickets do I feed this guy at a time?

Only eating one and he's become a different newt. He's come out from under his hiding log, and he's swimming all over the place and having a grand old time.

I see that I should feed him three or four times a week...but how many crickets?? He doesn't seem interested in anything else!

thanks so much, your forum has given me a lot of insight, now i just need some details.

i keep my newt on a good diet. i feed him 1 cricket a day everyday at 7:00, but hey thats me.

wow! i had given up hope for response. I saw somewhere else that I should only go for every other day or 2 times a week. I tried to feed him another one yesterday and he wasn't interested. Very strange. I'm going to try again right NOW!

thanks very much for getting back to me on that. I realize it takes them a while to get hungry, but I really wish I could feed him one every day.

thanks again

Carissa, I would not recommend feeding your newt only crickets. They are high in protein, but very low in calcium and some other nutrients. Either vary his diet, or dust the crickets with a calcium/vitamin powder. Worms are a better staple food, in my opinion.
