At the moment I have a 29 gallon (110 L) tank that is 30" long by 12" wide and 18" tall (76 cm x 30.5 cm x 46cm). Presently it is home to my small group of tropical fish but as I will likely be moving in the next couple months, these fish will be given away to either locals with suitable tanks or to the local fish store.

My question is, given the size and dimension of the tank would 2 adult axolotls be comfortable? I am happy to only have one but I have read conflicting information about whether axolotls need a buddy or not.

Thank you in advance!

2 to 3 would be fine. The general rule of thumb is 10 gallon per axolotl. It can be stretched a little with a little extra care.

I will plan for 2 then! I would much rather them have plenty of space then have one extra.

I would not put more than 2 in it to make for ease of maintenance.
