How many axolotls in 55 gallon?

Hello everyone! I am currently cycling my tank to get ready for some axies. We have a 55 gallon, 4' long tank. We have a bunch of live plants and some hides but my husband and I are debating whether to get 3 or 4. We would like to get 4 but we don't want them to be too crowded. I would love to get some opinions.
