How many axies can you keep in a 55 gallon tank. It is 4 ft X 1 foot? I have always wanted 3 different colors and have a chance to get a melanoid and wild type for cheap. I have three lecustic currently. I don't want to overcrowd the tank so I'm just wondering how many would be good in my tank? Thanks!

I had a 4ft x 35cmx45cm tank for quite a while (sold it as part of getting my new tank- still in the process of upgrading to the six footer :D), and I had six in for quite a few months, then lost one (My George :( ) to what appeared to be a heart attack. I had a leg lost a few months later (so with five axies in there), but part of that may have been due to plants not providing enough of a visual barrier for the little monsters :D, and (What I believe was the main cause) "DINNER!!!....Oooopsie" on Bertie's part (fortunately Freddie's leg grew back excellently). If you're going to five, make sure they each have at least a hide to go into and one that is shared between two, HEAPS of plants to stop them freaking so much and be very religious with cycling your tank. Hope your new additions settle in well.

I decided that I will stick with three until I upgrade to a 120 gallon or start a new tank. I don't want it to be overcrowded nor cause something to happen to one.
