could anyone give me an idea how many axies i could confortably house in a 35 gallon tank (dimensions are aprox 4ft long, 1ft wide and 1.5ft tall)? also can anyone reccomened a good filter for a tank that size? thank you in advance for the help

I would say 3 axies top...and a fluval 205 would be a perfect filter for that tank. I have a 30 gallon with 2 axies and a fluval 205...

I agree with Eric, no more than 3 comfortably. I would also say to consider a Zoo Med 501, a personal preference. The Fluvals are a popular choice too. Love to see it when you have it all set up! ;)

easily three, but no more than, would be nice for two if you want to spoil them with space.
i would reccomend the Fluval, everone loves them, personally I used an Elite stingray.

thanks for the responses! Crysta: iv been looking at elite stingrays, do you find they work well? thanks again for the help and pics will be up as soon as im set up ;)

The basic rule I follow is ten actual gallons of water per adult. So in this instance I agree with three max.

I don't recommend the stingray filter. It produces a lot of heat, all of which goes directly into your tank water. And you have to haul it out to clean it. And it may not have the capacity to deal with the amount of crud that 3 axolotls produce. Have you looked at hang-on-back waterfall type filters?

I have a stingray 15 in my guppy tank, they work but I would not reccommend them as they just arent very efficient, I'd go with ehiem aquaball all the way if you go down the internal filter route!

I found my Juwel internal a little better than my stingray, although I am using a stingray 15 in a 60l atm and it's doing the job.

I use a Rena XP2 external and I really cannot fault it. Fantastic design. Many favour the Eheims but tbh I prefer the Rena construction.

Jennewt's right they're not Ideal, it's just what I'm using, I wouldn't recommend one.
they also are not very good in regards to water flow.
