How long is a C.orientalis gravid?

Hey y'all I bought a few Cynops and one appears to be gravid. I've had her for a few days and no eggs. Water temp is less than 70 degrees F, they are feeding on earthworms and blackworms. I think she's either pregnant, or fat, not bloated because her neck is fine. I have no way of getting a picture up, . so how long are these newts normally gravid? Thanks.

My female is gravid for about 9 months of the year...xD

If you just bought them, it´s indeed possible that she is gravid (if she is, she was captured gravid), but it´s more likely that she is not. Gravid females have a pear shaped body, while fat ones tend to be thick in the upper body too.

she was definately gravid she started laying eggs about 3 or 4 days ago. so far I've collected 4 eggs. There is still one in the tank that I can't get to with my net, I'm hoping the adults can't either.

I've only ever seen my males eat the eggs but they ate them like candy.

They do eat the eggs. The hunger for them seems to vary greatly depending on individuals and indeed between seasons. For example my female is in general an egg eater, but while some years she eats most of them, others the cannibalism is left to a minimum. I have yet to see my males eat any, but i´ve heard of other males who do.

I think they did eat a couple during the night...so I'm checking them three times a day now and removing all the eggs--it's my "no egg left behind" policy!
