Well my girl fatty-fats is at it again.... more eggs
I'm currently raising her last batch and have had her separated from the males since she finished laying eggs about a month or two ago.

Well today I was cleaning her tank up a bit so I stuck her in with the boys for no more than 30min - probably only 10 or 20... and guess what, now she's laying eggs again

Well though I should just share.
Feisty little things aren't they

it depends when she is ready! You must have got her when she was just ready to accept the boys "powers". Axolotl boys also tend to get ...a bit excited when new axies are put in with them. Well in this case not new, but it was the first time they had seen each other in a while. Even if the new addition is male they tend to drop spermatiphores everythere just in case :S

congrats!! and wow that's so unfair!! haha i tried for ages!!! :D

Really, once you get axies to start breeding its almost impossible to get them to stop :D

What on earth do you do with all of the hatchlings then?

Well this female has produced chimeras/piebalds in the past (it died too early to tell), so i suppose wait for them all to hatch to see the colours... then work out what to do with them all?

I'm already looking after 300+ babies though

i know its nice to have piebalds, but consider yourself first. You don't want to be raising too many that you have stretched rescources and time. I struggled with 300

Maybe I'm just weird but 300 isn't actually too bad at the moment if i think about it. probably caus i was so traumatised by my first ever batch of 1000+ lol

Just keep them sorted according to size, keep the water quality up and make sure they always have black worms to eat and I have like 5 2ft tanks and 4 3ft tank to move them to if needed (old breeding/shop display setup someone gave me, not the prettiest but does the trick)

It's actually kinda relaxing to have my little 'zen' moment each day looking after my babies . It's a nice break from life

thats great. I struggle with everything else going on it becomes a chore somedays. How do you house them when they get bigger?

Wow 1000+ eggs. They must have been really healthy axies. When I first got mine they had very poor health:( and she layed only 30-50 eggs that were all bad. This year I'm happy to say I have 200+ and only 1 death and there now 2 weeks.
As for the 'zen' moment, I agree, other than when i've gotta get up early before work!

I have an old shop display and alot of tanks, also I went and bough lots of big plastic tubs to house them in. I find as long as they have enough hiding places they do pretty well, almost no nipping and absolutely no chunks of axie missing.

When I had my first batch lots of little sections of PCV pipe were the way to go, all the tanks were almost full of them. It kept them in good health before I could find them all homes.

as for the sheer number of eggs and frequency that my axie seems to lay them, she's called fatty-fats for a good reason :D
