Question: How long can you leave a worm in the water for your newt?

Hi all,

So i was wondering if how long you can leave a worm in the water with your newt? i was feeding last night and i put some worms ( cut up ) in my "feeding bowl, and when i went to bed they were still there, they had only been in it for about 2 hours at the most, but they looked a little pale. And then this morning there were none, and my one female newt was all fat. So, i obviously don't want them to eat decaying worms, so how long until i should remove them?

If it's a living worm (not cut up) it can stay alive for more than 2 days, but there's a risk that it burrows itself in the substrate. Cut up worms should be removed after 10 hours if you ask me if you ask me. The fact that they're a bit pale isn't something to worry about. They turn pale quite quick.

If you've got a tank with a lot of shrimps as I do than you don't need to worry about anything of this, because the worms will not last that long.

Ok, thanks man. They are chopped, i usually feed at night, and then take the worms out in the morning, so that isn't too long i guess. Do the shrimp eat the worms? Maybe i will get some..........
