I have recently got a new tank and decked it out with a nice rocky (moss covered) area for the newts to run around on. Under the water there are various 'caves'. Two of the newts have discovered the 'caves' and stay there. I havent seen them come up for air and was wondering how long they can stay underwater without coming up to breathe!

They can breath under water. No problem.
What species do you have?

Use this link to find out what newt you have so we can give you some more information. Try salamandridae/cynops/.... first. You'll probably have one of them.

Here's a link to what you can feed them.

If you look around on that website you'll find many more intresting articles and information you may need as a newt keeper.
Good luck

I have 6 Chinese Firebellies (Cynops orientalis). Common as anything here in China :p
