I thought you might get a kick out of this: This is how my dog and I get our aquarium water, since we have no plumbing - from the river by my house. It's very good, clean water, but ya gotta work for it in winter. Since I stepped up my newt/aquarium hobby, we have a lot more water to haul. Got 3 tanks now, plus Daphnia and larva....maybe I need a second dog so the Pudden doesn't work so hard?

I hacked a hole in the ice a few weeks ago and keep it covered w. plywood. All I have to do is dig the plywood out from under the snow, and unless it's been minus 20 or so, the hole should still be open

gotta be careful not to fall in.

That's the Pudden, my dog. She takes every opportunity for a game of frisbee

the Pudden pulls home the loot (Mama pushes a bit, too)

wow. very cool.

that definitely looks like hard work. i can't stand the cold...

Now that is what I call dedication ...what a team. It makes me appreciate having my water supply so much more.

I feel much more appreciative of my well water. :D

Wow! Great photos!

Good dog, Pudden ^_^

Never again will I moan about having to lug buckets of water from my tap to next room, that really is love for your pets :)

Haha awesome thread!
Do you drink that water too Molch?

I never cease to be amazed by what I find in this forum  :D

Fantastic, Molch, thanks for sharing!

I will never again complain about hauling the waste water out of my basement (no drain). You are a brave person to undertake an aquarium hobby when you have to work so hard for water!

molch...I take my hat off to you and your dog, she is beautiful by the way. Thanks for sharing those photos.... I will never complain about dragging a full container of dirty water again.

oh thanks...though, in all fairness, one of my other hobbies is to take a shower every night, and that actually uses up much more water than my newt habit....

Thanks for sharing. I am speechless... ;-)

Details such as the size of the enclosure, water temperature, etc, will help.
If you could provide photos, then that would be a bonus

Hope this helps

PS. Sorry, I couldn't resist

O_O Things like this make me realize how much i love having a tap. I´ll go caress gently its metallic curves and whisper "i love you" to it now, i don´t want it to be mad at me.

Oh Molch! Brilliant!! :D

(After I'd posted the Standard Caudata-Forum Reply of "tank size, water temp?, please include photos"....it occurred to me that I may've accidentally caused offence (not intended).....I'm glad you took it with the humour I intended)

Equally as problematic, or 'challenging' if you prefer, your shower shows similar 'character' and 'functionality/reliability ' levels as my shower when I lived in Sardinia.
Low-tech can be so much better than High-tec, in the right environment, and with the benefit that you get clean and appreciate on a fundamental level where and what water is.....

To be honest, I have to voice a major disappointment.........I was expecting Molch to uncover the sheet of ply-wood, stand back and 'de-robe', and to fufill the desires of the gathering hoard of 'well-wishers' by bravely plunging into the icy depths, only to emerge, 'glowing with health'..........but then who would play frisbee with Pudden? lol

(Any mention of 'minus 20 degrees' is a reference to compass readings, not Celcius temperature readings, and would only be met by indifference from the forum, as would the turning blue/grey of any bodily extremities, limbs, etc.)

You have my greatest respect, Molch, KW

"Anyway, Ken, a nice cup of cocoa to wash down the medication before bedtime.........."

That is amazing and clever! You really are living on the edge. Talk about Northern Exposure!
Now I know you must have ferrets running in wheels because how else do you get your electricity?? Do you get to work by dogsled and and chop your own wood too? I really admire this...from afar.
