So I've just bought this ''sand'' that was sold to me as sand but it says 'fine gravel' all over it. The particle size is about 0,7 to 1 mm. It's silica sand/gravel and all of the particles are round, almost like really miniature marbles. In hand it feels like rough beach sand, the kind that gets stuck under your fingernails and hurts quite bad. I've put it into my tank with an juvenile axie, about 11 cm (4 and a half inches) and I'm worried if it's going to cause any problems. I'm feeding him with frozen bloodworms and I've put a large feeding bowl for them, so any ingestion of the sand/gravel should be minimal.

If the particles are fairly round and a millimeter in size, they should be okay; the biggest problem with gravel is the impaction risk, and as long as the sand is small enough to pass through the axolotl's digestive system should they ingest any, you should be fine.

Hello. I just noticed two notches, white small bubbles on the hind legs of one of my male newts.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
