Whats the earliest you've found mole salamanders active? What was the location, date, and temperatures (day/night)

Thank you

Actually, yesterday's stable 65 degrees with soft rain for 24 hours brought out both the A. opacum and A. annulatum in my back yard. N33 50.749', W84 05.018, elevation 981 ft.

Spring peepers and wood frogs awoke, too - the noise is so loud it makes conversation difficult, but I can't bear to shut the windows

I friend of mine found a spotted salamander in his yard sometime in spring or fall (I don't know the details it was a while back.)

Good catch Brandon - meant maculatum, had a brain cramp.

Mea culpa.

I think they are going to breed in the ponds out here like last year. Probably in March.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
