Every time I try to take pictures of my axolotl, Yanti, all that makes it into the shot is my own reflection and a gigantic light spot. If I try not using flash, you can't see anything at all! It may just be because I have a wildtype on dark sand, but it's really frustrating not being able to show him off!
So what do you use? An immersible camera? A flash suppressor? Shooting from an angle? A certain type of camera or lense?
Thanks!

Definitely turn the flash off as you'll get no where! I draw my curtains and only have the tank lights on so I don't get any reflections on the tank glass. See if my axies are out looking cute then click, one great picture

Light the tank from above. Try to turn off/block all other light coming from outside the tank because that is what's causing the reflections. If your camera has a setting for 'MACRO" this will help.

Good luck!

If you take pics from a slight angle, it'll help eliminate glare too.

Turn off all lights in the room except for tank lights. Do not use flash. If you're having trouble because the pictures come out too dark, increase the ISO, but that shouldn't be an issue as long as the tank is well lit.

Also, I'd recommend a relatively fast shutter speed so that the axies don't come out all blurry if the move a little during the shot. Not too fast though, because this can make the pictures too dark.

All great advice ... and take alot! lots of angles etc,, find what works

Thank you all! I've finally been able to get some good shots. Now the trouble is just getting Yanti to sit still long enough.

Good to hear you got some good shots :)

Now you can post some here for us to see too :D
