I've had my axolotl for 6 months now and he's gotten really big and he's been really healthy so far. However he has recently developed a white tuff on the end of his gill. My water parameters are normal, low levels of ammonia a slightly hard ph and etc. He seems healthy otherwise and is still eating but I would like to setup a quarantine tank so that I can clean out his other tank and figure out what caused the white growths. I would like to keep him in the quarantine tank for a few days.So do I need another 20-30 gallon tank/tub or could I get something smaller?

Thank you for any information you have!

Generally fungal infections are just water quality related. What are you exact water parameters?

Quarantine tubs can be just that, a tub. You can also use a food safe plastic/glass container. As long as it its at least as long as they are so they can stretch out straight and have enough room to turn around. You'll need to do 100% water changes daily on the tub so I recommend having 2 to swap between day to day.

I only have ammonia test strips, 5in one test strips, and a liquid ph test so nothing I can give on the parameters is super accurate. However the ammonia is low (between 0 and .2) and my ph is about 7. I think that the temperature increase that my area has had caused him to be stressed which lead to his condition.

I bought a 90 qt. Sterilite plastic bin to put him in as well as a 32 qt. bin for him to go in during water changes and maybe tea baths. Do I need a filter?

Thank you for your help!
