Looking for advice.
House mate is looking into getting a salamander for Christmas. I have found a local reptile store which has a local breeder of CB fire salamanders.
Would these be an appropriate for their first amphib?
I have gave them some care sheets and shown them some threads on the forum but would anyone have some advice or tips?

It's great if you have a local breeder, that's always the way to go if you can. Fire sals are very appropriate for a first amphib.

A fire salamander was my first terrestrial amphibian. Very easy to care for, and doesn't need a huge amount of space. I'd say it's a great first pet. As long as they follow the care sheets they should be fine. Mine was particular to crickets and earthworms, and I kept it on soil and moss with leaf litter. Very simple set up. I'd say terrestrial sals are actually much easier than aquatic ones for first timers, especially if they don't know much about aquarium maintenance. I got mine from a local breeder as well, and that's a great idea. Plus they can talk to the breeder if they need advice.

Thanks a lot for your comments. Just get the setup sorted now.
