Hongkongensis...how big do they get?

Hello all:

I've been looking at some of the pics on this forum of various paramesotriton.I'm wonmdering..how big do these things get? My two hongkongensis must be pretty young because they are 8 and 10 cm. respectively.When I see pictures of these 16 cm dragon's, I start thinking I may have to upgrade my tank! How big can they get?

I have 2 males that have been in captivity for several years. They are about 13-14 cm and very chunky. I believe that the females get a bit longer, as they have a longer tail relative to body. I keep my 2 in a 15-gallon tank (30x60 cm).

So yours are rather small. Can you tell if they are male or female?

I'm guessing they are male and female. One has a much longer tail and is quite a lot rounder. But I will give them the closer examination soon. They are doing very well and came to me from the pet store quite healthy (one was a tad skinny). Made me think they were captive bred, but I doubt that's the case. So far, the tank has been quite peaceful.

Just measured my two hongkongensis ten months after this original post.

The female is now 16 cm the male is 14 cm.

Both doing well and the male is showing breeding colouration.
