<font color="aa00aa">I just purchased a Hong Kong Warty Newt today and was wondering if any of you could help me with some information on him. I know it's a male from his coloring, but I will try to get a picture up soon. I have him in a five gallon aquarium, and he seems to be fine. Also, he's about 5-6 inches long, so I am asuming he is an adult. Also, at the store, they had ghost shrimp in with the newts, so I bought some as well, and he is DEFINITELY eating them. Right now I have a rock and a piece of slate that he can climb up on, as well as some vegitation, and I was wondering if I should move him into a larger cage, because I do have a ten gallon i could put him in. Also, should I section off a terrestrial area for him?? PLEASE HELP!!! I do have herp expierence, snakes most of my life, turtles, and a pair of very very finikey geckos... but not a newt. Thanks!

okay, i have another question, how long does it take for them to reach adult hood, since i know mine is an adult, and I'd like to know how old it is! thanks!

I think they reach sexual maturity within 3-4 years. There's no way of knowing how old your newt is for sure at this point.

i guess the only way to know his when he dies from old age, which could be any time depending on his age now... sniffle.... he's doing great though, eating and staying happy!! thanks

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
